What makes you want to do this?
The answer to that is quite simple. As a kid i remember my parents driving around town and looking at lights as a family i was amazed with the lights. Once i got older i started putting up lights at my house and ever since then that's been my whole goal is to bring happiness and joy to everyone thru my light display. Young and old everyone needs some joy during the holidays and that is what i intend to do.
Where do you come up with ideas?
i get ideas from everywhere some in the middle of the night and some while i am at work they just pop in my head.
My girlfriend she has some amazing ideas when it comes to the light display. This year (2020) she brought in the Nightmare before christmas, Baymax and Charlie Brown scenes.
How many light are there?
That changes from year to year
2019 we had 10,696.
This year 2020 we estimated around 20,000 lights. We pretty much doubled the light count from last year!!
How much money do you spend on lights?
Well each year i spend between 100 to 200 dollars on new lights. After christmas is over and everything is on sales. So over the years it starts adding up and before you know it, You have a few thousand lights.
How much power do you use?
Last year (2019) i was pulling just shy of 40 amp using 5 different circuits. This year (2020) we will be using 8 10
amp circuits and our total amp draw was 50 amps.
How long does it take to set everything up?
That depends on what all i am doing from year to year.
I normally start putting lights out right after Halloween and normally will be finishing up a week before Thanksgiving, or at least thats the goal anyway.
What is the most challenging item you have made?
My most challenging build would have to be the bethlehem star. That took a few days to complete, a lot of thinking, and a small bit of geometry to get the shape correct.
what is the easiest item you have made.
Easiest item would be the 3 foot stars next to the mini arches. All you need is 5 dowel rods some duct tape and zip ties, Then you fould it all around until you get a star shape, Then just add lights.
Why is there no 2021 Display?
Well i had still been living with my dad and about a year ago Brittany moved in with me and in that year we decided that it was time to get our own place. So now we have our own place but unfortunately we can not have a display here so for the moment while we are here (a year or two) we can take a break from the planning and crazy display we have come to love.
